Avenza PDF Maps
Avenza PDF Maps - Avenza Systems Inc.
Original Release Date for this iPhone App: September 19, 2010
PDF Maps is a fast and powerful geospatial PDF reader for your Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices. Geospatial PDF files are Adobe Acrobat PDF files that contain geographic information such as real world coordinates and waypoint attributes. With PDF Maps, you can download and open saved maps, pan, zoom, use GPS to locate yourself on the map, drop multiple waypoints, add attribute data, and measure area and distance. Now any map can become a GPS-enabled map.

Unlike other map apps, PDF Maps reads real coordinates from PDF documents and fully integrates tools to interact with them. It renders maps quickly and features intuitive multi-touch gestures for easy navigation. Easily add geospatial PDF maps to your library by downloading them from the Avenza PDF Map warehouse, an external source or even your own creations. Many free maps are available online. Unlike with streaming map apps, maps are stored on the device and can be used offline, which is great for travelers who wish to use maps outside of their home network or in areas that do not have network coverage.

PDF Maps features:
• Access and load maps over a Wi-Fi or cellular network and download documents to read any time
• Access and load maps from your own computer through iTunes File Sharing
• Access and interact with saved maps without the need for a live network connection (offline)
• View your location on the PDF map using the built-in GPS device (iPad and iPhone)
• Use the compass to view true or magnetic north (iPad and iPhone)
• Quickly view, zoom and pan maps using multi-touch gestures (pinch, drag and flick, double tap)
• Plot waypoints, change pin colors, position and label names, enter attribute data and notes
• View the coordinates of the current position and any waypoint (latitude and longitude) and open it in Google Maps
• Measure distances and areas
• Open current map extents in the Maps app

PDF Maps supports geospatial PDF files created by:
• Avenza MAPublisher and Geographic Imager
• ESRI ArcGIS
• MapInfo Professional
• TerraGo GeoPDF(R)
• Other software products that support the Adobe geospatial PDF 1.7 specification

It is recommended to run PDF Maps on iPhone 3GS or better, 3rd generation iPod Touch or better, or iPad for best results.
