| | AED GeoTagger | AED GeoTagger - James Leaming Original Release Date for this iPhone App: February 18, 2010 Social networking to improve public access to defibrillation. Tag AED's in your community to ensure that these life-saving devices can be used by people to care for a victim of sudden cardiac arrest.
Developed as a public service by researchers and educators in emergency medicine at the Penn State University College of Medicine, the AED Geotagger application offers functionality to improve public access to defibrillators (used to restore heart function after a sudden cardiac arrest). The application provides community members, using the camera function of the iPhone or iPod Touch, to geotag both location and photographic information about community automatic external defibrillator (AED) assets. Once the data is uploaded and error-checked, the ability to determine AED locations in the vicinity of a user will give immediate situational awareness of defibrillators that could be used in an emergency. Finally, the application provides instant information on how to perform CPR and how to use an automatic external defibrillator (AED) device for people that have been a victim of sudden cardiac arrest or out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. These short video demonstrations are compatible with recommendations from the major international resuscitation organizations including the American Heart Association and the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR).
The application is not meant to supersede accessing local 911 emergency response services nor is it considered a substitute for proper training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation or AED use, but may be a useful quick review of information. We urge everyone to receive formal instruction in CPR and AED use. More information on CPR training is available through the American Heart Association. |
