| | Balance Forecasting | Balance Forecasting - Robert Chitoiu Original Release Date for this iPhone App: January 20, 2010 Upcoming: 1. More colors 2. A way to reset data 3. Password protection 4. A secret feature that will greatly improve the calendar view experience
The goal of “Balance Forecasting” is to help the user be more organized when it comes knowing how much money will be in their account on any given day in the future. At the same time, it provides a simple and streamlined user interface for accomplishing this task.
Features:
1. Easy to use interface
Enter one of four item types: repeating bill, repeating income, one time bill and one time income. Easy to use interface to facilitate fast creation of items.
2. Forecast your balance up to one year in the future
The application takes the information you entered and provides lists sorted by date. Here you can see how much money you have left on any given day in the future. Make sure you update the balance first at the top of the list to get an accurate figure! To customize how many months in the future you want to see, go to the Options and change the end date.
3. Create exceptions for irregular items
If one of your bills is due for a different amount on a given month, just tap on the row in the Forecasting view and change the amount. The forecast will then be recomputed and the exception will be remembered for future use. If you would like to postpone a given item too, you can tap on the given row and choose “Set Date”. If when creating an exception, your balance will hit zero at any date in the future, the program will notify you by showing the given date. To enable this feature, please go to the Options and set the slider to On.
4. Searching and filtering
Search and filter your forecast items based on date, name, amount and balance by tapping the search bar. For example, to only see the items with the work “bank” in them, search for “n = bank”. You can also mix and match. To only show items named “utilities” after March 27th including, you can do “N = utilities D >=0327”. The codes are (you can do either lowercase or uppercase, it does not matter): N - name, D - date, A - amount, B - balance. You can also create exceptions while you are in search mode. Simply tap the given row and set a new amount or date. Hit cancel to return to the regular forecast view.
5. Calendar view
Display your forecast data in a nice calendar, which is essentially identical to the one in the Calendar application. Unfortunately, you will not be able to create exceptions from inside the calendar view. Nor will you be able to update the balance.
6. Auto-updating balance
This feature, when turned on in the Options, allows your balance to be automatically be set when you open up the program to a value, which the program may think is correct. For example, let’s say your balance today is $100 (today being 02/01). On 02/03 you have a bill for $40 coming up. If you then open the program on 02/04, the program will update the balance to $60. Of course, this assumes that no other charges have been incurred on your account besides those $40. Essentially, the program will use a forecast figure to update the balance when you open up the application. But if you manually set the balance, it will use that figure later on, unless a bill is due after the day you updated the balance. If you don’t trust this feature meddling with your numbers, or your account fluctuates too much, feel free to just disable this feature.
7. Support for users with color deficiencies
If you have a color deficiency, please head over to the System Settings, look for the Forecasting application and flip the switch.
